Dr. Hailey Walterman is an accomplished violist, educator, and performer with a deep passion for both classical and commercial music. Based in Los Angeles, she has built a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer, collaborating with renowned artists and institutions across the country.
Dr. Walterman holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Bachelor of Music from Azusa Pacific University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She has served as a Viola Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas, instructing undergraduate violin and viola students while also coaching chamber ensembles.
As a dedicated educator, she maintains a thriving private studio through Walterman Studios LLC. Additionally, she has held teaching positions at institutions such as Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), La Cañada High School, the University of Texas String Project, and Austin Chamber Music Center.
Dr. Walterman is an active freelancer, performing with ensembles such as the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Symphony, and Central Texas Philharmonic, where she served as Assistant Principal Viola. She has appeared in notable collaborations with Luis Miguel, Paul Anka, Michael Bublé, Il Divo, Father John Misty, and Midori Goto, among others.
Her passion for chamber music has led her to perform in masterclasses with esteemed groups such as the Tokyo String Quartet, Takács Quartet, Miro Quartet, and Aeolus Quartet. She has also been a featured artist at prestigious festivals, including the Next Festival of Emerging Young Artists, Montecito International Music Festival, and Masterworks Festival in China.
An advocate for artistic excellence, Dr. Walterman has contributed to several recordings, including RAIGN’s live album recorded at the Village Studios, the film Year One (composed by Hunter Chang), and Inlet Audio’s “Viola Drama Textures” sample library. She was also a semi-finalist in the Coltman Chamber Music Competition and has been recognized with multiple academic and performance scholarships.
Committed to advancing string education and performance, she is a member of the American Viola Society, American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
